Ohio (not ohayoo)

July 12, 2010 7:59 pm

We (myself + boyfriend) visited Athens for a second time last weekend to secure a place for me to live this school year. Along the way we worked on his graduate study of tree of heaven… and how(/why) its everywhere.

Anyone in the Baltimore area should stop by Mr Yogato, not only because their frozen yogurt is awesome and they let you play games (both Nintendo and board), but because they’ve let me put my art up for the month of July. Groovy.

Soon to have more accomplishments, such as finding a place to live and a job in Ohio. Scary! (in Japan, Kowaii!)

Ohayoo!

Five days in Tokyo and five days in Hakodate are guaranteed to throw off your biological clock, confuse the language center of your brain, and be generally awesome.

Tokyo (Honshuu):

Shibuya, Tokyo: as seen from Starbucks.

Harajuku, Tokyo: shrine with wish tree.

Ueno, Tokyo: shrine outside zoo.

Hakodate (Hokkaido):

Goreakaku park, as seen from Goreakaku tower.

Mt Hakodate, day

As a bonus for you, because I hardly believed the cuteness… Haneda Airport (Tokyo):

ANA's Pokemon plane, Handea airport, Tokyo.

Things that you may have missed:

I’m working full-time in sales, will attend Ohio University for an MA in Photojournalism in the fall, went to a bunch of shows, had a birthday, got an A in Elementary Japanese, booked some flights to/around Japan, did some stuff, etc etc. If you’re really not certain about that seemingly useless MA, check out Soul of Athens.

Theo and I have been swing dancing (East AND West coast), nerding out to roller derby, and generally visiting as many places on a budget as possible. This weekend? Party on a 50th-floor rooftop in Manhattan…and all I’m worried about is what to wear.

Took these photos for Theo’s apartment. His suggestion was “blue & orange” while my addition is parts of tourist Baltimore that are beautifully falling apart. They’re currently in a corner, so I’ll share them with you, great internet:

Spring Break – Pt 2

March 29, 2010 9:30 pm

Part Two of Spring Break had two missions:

Not spend any money

Stop the guilt from NOT visiting my parents.

So I visited them. Not the most fun people on Earth, but Arizona is beautiful. I also did an excellent (cough cough) photo essay on animals with/without thumbs at the Phoenix Zoo.

Spring Break – Pt 1

9:23 pm

Part One had two main objectives:

Get out of the country &

Take Julia somewhere she had never been before.

Naturally the choice was Niagara Falls. Unfortunately, the border simply doesn’t stamp passports anymore. But we made quite a lot of friends, and, well, forget that story about hitting the moose. Everyone survived. For future reference, don’t take spring break somewhere cold, when its going to rain, and drive home during daylight savings time. All is well now, 2 new tires later. :)

Fire Will Save Us

…was the original theme for today.

The theme changed, however, to “there’s a lot more water out here than I originally anticipated.”
