Year-in-review (stolen from last year’s post; many answers remain the same).
1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? — took a spontaneous vacation, drank beyond drunk, met a boy from the internet, packed up my parents’ house, spontaneous glorious BBQs, stood in a friend’s wedding, met a midget from the circus, got a manicure, played beer pong, sang karaoke, took the GRE, snuck around a college campus other than my own, FINALLY dyed my hair purple
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? — No, but I have added: NO NEW MATTS.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? — No.
4. Did anyone close to you die? — No.
5. What countries did you visit? — I got a passport in order to fulfill this requirement in 2010.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? — Enrollment in a graduate program
7. What date(s) from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? — Yeah, sorry, nothing that exciting happened.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? — I accomplished nothing. Health insurance?
9. What was your biggest failure? — Accomplishing nothing.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? — Only the usual; I did get new glasses though.
11. What was the best thing you bought? — Passport, boots… I don’t have money to buy things.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? — Everyone who’s driven me home.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? — All unnecessarily angry customers. And all Matts.
14. Where did most of your money go? — AACC, landlord, BGE.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? — Sombrero Party, South of the Border, Brian-from-Michigan and Boston/Salem
16. What songs will always remind you of 2009? — Poker Face, Right Round, and anything from the Mad Caddies, Belle & Sebastian or Jukebox the Ghost
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? — Happier but more cynical. ii. thinner or fatter? — Fatter. iii. richer or poorer? — I earn more income, but pay more bills.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? — Accomplishing something, anything.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? — Thinking about work.
20. How did spend you Christmas? — Sarah’s dad’s for breakfast, Sarah’s mom’s for lunch, Sherlock Holmes later.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009? — Not with people, though perhaps with life and/or idea(l)s.
24. What were your favourite TV programmes? — Project Runway, BBC World News.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? — No more hate, only disappointment.
26. What was the best book you read? — Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett and Fool by Christopher Moore, simultaneously.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? — Mad Caddies or Jukebox the Ghost
28. What did you want and get? — Passport, boots, a new phone… I don’t really want things anymore.
29. What did you want and not get? — A full-time job and/or consistent freelancing opportunities.
30. What was your favourite film of this year? — Watchmen, Up, The Hangover, Sherlock Holmes
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? — SOMBRERO PARTY, year 23.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? — More road trips.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009? — Dress pants, tank top, contrasting color dress shirt, sassy shoes, matching glasses.
34. What kept you sane? — Never coming home.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? — I’m not really into famous people.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? — I try to remain detached.
37. Who did you miss? — Family, 100%.
38. Who was the best new person you met? — I don’t know, but it was probably a Matt.

Work and school are still in full force, but Drake and I are over. The weather sure is lovely, though.

Funny how a beautiful day makes you appreciate the small things. Like never regretting a dramatic green wall.

Or that flowers are even better through a macro filter.

Or a belief that everyone should enjoy the flora.

Or that we should enjoy ourselves regardless of weather.

Portfolio Article Helpful

The article Creating a Successful Online Portfolio was assigned to my Practicum class for us to respond and design our portfolios accordingly. This must be the fourth time I’ve gone over the article; and I tweak my portfolio after each reading.

I’m not really a fancy person, nor am I a graphic designer, so a lot of the examples in the article didn’t particularly apply to my portfolio. The article was super-helpful nonetheless, if for no other reason than I remembered to update my portfolio each time I thought of this assignment. For now, my portfolio is clean, easy to navigate, presents a smallish selection of my work quite efficiently, and I know exactly how I want my portfolio to be used. What I need to work on is making it more unique (since right now its a standard Gallery installation) and having better access to contact information.

I’ll get there. Maybe when I’m not working two jobs and going to school full time. Which will probably be never. The cycle perpetuates itself.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? — Earned a BA, moved into a house with friends, painted (walls and canvases), photographed weddings, traveled to San Fransisco, met my nieces, got a pedicure.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? — Graduating from SU, earning a promotion, photographing weddings.
9. What was your biggest failure? — Not getting into grad school.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? — I went to the ER… for an anxiety attack.
11. What was the best thing you bought? — Either the 18-200mm lens or the f1.2 50mm lens.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? — Sarah, because she asked me to move into her house.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? — The CEOs at Picture People, for their frivolous spending and resulting “budget crisis”.
14. Where did most of your money go? — Susquehanna, AACC, rent.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? — MacBook Pro, graduating.

28. What did you want and get? — A California vacation, a better job, a college diploma, some other things too.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007? — T-shirts with witty sayings, jeans, flip-flops (its ben the same since 11th grade).
34. What kept you sane? — People with titles: Azn, boyfriend, roommates, stand partner, pen pal.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? — I’m not really into famous people.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? — Maryland’s taxes increasing.
37. Who did you miss? — True friends from SU.
38. Who was the best new person you met? — Any of the lovelies from Picture People.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007. — Graduate programs are really expensive.

Thanks-Giving

This is kind of a tradition of mine. Meaning that I’ve done it three times in the last six years…

I am thankful for my ears, without which my life would have little purpose
I am thankful for this pair of red plaid pants I’ve had for six years now
I am thankful for both of my parents, who who are giving me pretty much everything when I move out
I am thankful for my health, or at least my health insurance
I am thankful for Matt, who constantly but gently reminds me what it is to be myself
I am thankful for those from SU who still consider me a friend, or at least worthwhile
I am thankful for professors who instill a love for their subject matter into students (because they don’t really exist at AACC)
I am thankful for the house I’ll be moving into soon, and the friends who want to share their space with me
I am thankful for those who believe in me and push me that extra bit more (they don’t really exist at AACC either)
I am thankful for an economy that allows me to hold three jobs
I am thankful for the small shred of sanity that allows me to hold three jobs on top of a 12-credit course load
I am thankful for Apollo, who is on my lap right now (plz see “Contrast Control” in the prvs post)
I am thankful for my sarcasm and wit, and for those who share and understand them
I am thankful for libraries and other public centers for learning, like you wouldn’t even believe
I am thankful for the ability to see life both through the eyes of a human and the lens of a camera
I am thankful for The Nikon Corporation, and am pretty sure they’re thankful for me too
I am thankful for modern creative minds such as John Adams, Neil Gaiman, and Annie Leibovitz
Lastly I am thankful, immeasurably, for the many homes and arms I have been welcomed into throughout my life
