I wish I could go back to college.
Life was so simple back then.
What would I give to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again!

I don’t know who I am anymore!
I wanna go back to my room and find a message in dry-erase pen on the door!

I need an academic advisor to point the way!

4 A.M. before the final paper is due,

Its been almost a month since my last post, so, I apologize, but life is still just as busy. I’m waiting to choose one job over another but I’m a Taurus and change is difficult.

Last Friday Matt and I went to NYC to see Susquehanna’s orchestra play in Carnegie Hall. Twelve-hour round trip, drenching old rain, high-high balcony seats… and it was absolutely amazing. We explored part of Central Park, and Matt promised we could go back with sunshine and an SLR. There wasn’t time to see my friends, but I ran into some of their parents, and aught up with a few of my professors, which was awkward at first, but, you know.

The best part of the day, besides incredible music in an incredible auditorium, was the stereotypical New York scene. Exiting from Central Park, Matt and I stopped next to a horse-drawn carriage to cross the street. A construction worker on one corner jackhammered into the street while another man welded; a third waving people on with his bright orange flag. The New Yorkers, clad all in black with black umbrellas or none at all, danced across the street as drivers of sixteen-wheelers and sub-compacts honked their horns incessantly, going nowhere. What I would have given or a fast-acting camera with a wide-angle lens at that moment.

Hopefully I will scan some of my school projects in soon, just to prove how awesome I am.

I’m still a little shocked that SU actually let me graduate, a year early, and with two BAs. Be honest, some of you were also thinking that it wouldn’t quite work out. And actually, I wasn’t sure that I was getting both degrees until I opened my diploma. There are some pretty useless photos from yesterday up here, if anyone’s interested.

The AACPL should call me back tomorrow regarding my interview last week, and we can hope that goes as well as graduation did. Also, Matt should hear back from them about his appliation next week, and things could work out rather well. Tomorrow I also start back at Medieval Times, wearing a corset and covering my nose peircing in order to romp around underpaid-land.

Those new layouts I promised to put up around the spiffyness are still coming! That is, they’re coming once I either figure out how to edit and upload on my MacBook, or give up and use my old laptop for a while. One of the two will happen by the end of the month. Hopefully I’ll be fully unpacked by then!

As of today, things are starting to look up for me. Classes are done; I just have a paper due Thursday morning and a final Thursday afternoon.

Then its home for a week. Mom and I are going out Friday to get birthday presents for all the nieces I’ve never met but am socially obligated to buy gifts for anyway. Saturday Matt and another one of our friends are going to look at some promising apartments. Then I actually have time to unpack my things and start being an adult before my job interview Wednesday morning.

I had been hinging my immediate future on the Anne Arundel County Public Library calling me back in regards to the part-time circulation job I applied for, but instead they think I’m best suited for a full-time information/research/program-planning job and who am I to argue. They have three positions open so hopefully that means I can score this job.

Then next Thursday is back to school to pick up my cap&gown and three friends. Said three friends are coming back home with me on Friday to spend my 21st birthday at Medieval Times, only to grab Matt and be back at school for graduation rehearsal Saturday morning. Sunday ‘everyone’ comes up to see me graduate and THEN, perhaps unforunately, I become a real person.

So if I’m not around… at least you know where I am.

Orchestra: today 4-6, tomorrow 10-4, Sunday 2:30-4

As much as I love Bloch’s Sacred Service and enjoy playing with choir… this paper is not going to write itself. In a way it saddens me to think I’m writing my final final-paper for who knows how long. Not that I really enjoy writing, but its a rite of passage I’ve grown used to.

I’ll be home next weekend to photograph a wedding on the 21st and see all the of beautiful people I missed over Easter Break. Perhaps sometime then I’ll work on this paper. And can I say that I do not appreciate upper-level final papers with specific prompts? I’ve been following your syllabus all semester, can you please let me explore what I want now?

Although I suppose a paper on how Jekyll&Hyde foreshadowed super heros isn’t too in line with the class, but it would make for an interesting argument.

Within the next week or so I should be hearing back from both MICA and SCAD on different subjects. It all depends on money though, unforunately. On that vein, I’ve applied for ten full-time photography jobs and heard back from none. Starting next weekend I’ll apply to jobs decidedly not in my field, because I’ve got to do something that gets me health insurance.

Other than that, I’m just trying to finish up two papers (before Easter Break next Thursday) in between all of these orchestra rehearsals. I’ve got a gig-thing with the Bloomsburg Community Orchestra just helping them out for the spring oncert, but its pretty much taking my entire tomorrow and Sunday. I’ll be home next weekend and decidedly working, but no one’s perfect.

For now its off to the gym, class, and pleny of work to keep Friday feeling like a Monday.

Oh right and then there was that part where Sarah came up last weekend. We went into Philadelphia to hit the Liberty bell, Independence Hall, and Franklin Institute. There were cheesesteaks at an almost-sketchy diner and a dinner of cereal. Overall: awesome.

I know I haven’t been around much the past few weeks, and I might not be until the end of the semester (May 3!). As always, there’s a ton of more work to do for school and for orchestra. However it is completely unusual for my weekends to be booked straight through to the end of the semester. Last spring I went home every other weekend (and earned the best grades of my college life)!

I’m only online now because my 9AM was cancelled. Once I finish breakfast I’ll jump into either research or assigned reading. Sherlock Holmes is amazing, by the way. Though I must question the parents that named their sons Sherlock and Mycroft.

Just to give you, dear reader, an idea of my immediate future, here are the titles for the papers I’m working on: 1) Triumph of Germanic Roots: Richard Wagner’s Journey from Reform to Annihilation and 2) Dressed for Success: Whiteness in Antebellum Portraiture. The second one means I get to look at a lot of picture books.
